This English lyric is a translation of the 1990 Mandarin song 你怎麽舍得我难过, composed by 黄品源 who also wrote the lyrics and sang the song.
The lyrics were inspired by the songwriter’s own heartbreak. He once sang at a small eatery, where a female fan became his girlfriend. When he got a chance to join a record company, she feared losing him to fame and suggested they part ways. Though torn, he chose music. After signing the deal, she quietly disappeared. When he returned to his hometown later, she was gone.
